National Conference on Indigenous systems of Medicine – 2015

National Conference on Indigenous systems of Medicine – 2015, with the theme Research and Innovations in Indigenous Systems of Medicine for 21st Century, was organized by Bandaranaike Memorial Ayurveda Research Institute (BMARI), with an aim of making the outcomes of research in to tangible results which in turn can be meaningfully used in the National Healthcare System.the research topics of the Conference proceedings cover a vast area including prevention, management and treatments for diseases like cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and dengue which have been identified as foremost health issued in the country. The forum will directly and indirectly benefit the community range from a scientist to laymen in different ways. 
The executive summary was prepared to draw the attention of researchers, research students and policy makers at a glance.


The total number of research papers selected for the conference is 111. Out of it, researchers in BMARI have contributed to 55 papers (49.5%). All of them were related to Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and traditional medical systems (AUST) in Sri Lanka. Majority of the papers were focused to the five main research domains of BMARI, i.e. Cancer, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD), Dengue and Diabetes.  These papers covered several important areas deserving the attention.Some of the papers have addressed the current issues arose in relation to these medical systems. 
The studies compiled in the proceedings can be categorized into several sub sectors as mentioned below.
